At my violin lesson yesterday I reported that I bought my own electric violin.
As I explained how I got a budget one because the next step up, identical to the one I use at the music studio was about 4-5 times the price she scurried over to the door to make sure it was closed before telling me that I made the right choice.
The Japanese often have an outward face (tatemae 建前) that they show to most people and their true thoughts (honne 本音) which they often keep to themselves.
In this case my teacher had the tatemae that she was a teacher at a Yamaha music studio and needed to support the brand but the honne that she thought Yamaha silent violins weren’t very good.
Yamaha silent violins have littler semblance to a real acoustic violin and have parts, such as the chin rest and shoulder stand that are fixed in place don’t allow for adjustment.
We don’t have many dishes that are simply roasted fish in Canada.
I do remember that there were whole fish sold at a local Korean supermarket though.
I should probably learn how to prepare and cook fish properly.
I like it and it’s apparently very healthy.
So many more things I can cook if I learn too…
